The Rise & Fall of Carmarthen Bay Power Station 1946 ~ 1991

Описание к видео The Rise & Fall of Carmarthen Bay Power Station 1946 ~ 1991

This upload is dedicated to the late D L Jones who worked at the Power Station from 1959 until 1989. During his working life, he collected images of the power station, and built up an unique collection from cutting the original sod in 1947, until the final demolition in 1991.
I was approached by his Daughter Mrs Lauraine Clarke, who asked if I could do something with her fathers photographic collection to enable a larger audience to see these wonderful images.
There are details of each image shown, but I felt it was to much to include with each image, but if you have any questions regarding any image, then I would be delighted to answer if I can.
Carmarthen Bay Power Station was built on the north shore of the Burry estuary, occupying some 220 acres. Work started on its construction in April 1947, power was first generated on 28 June 1953. At this time the plant employed around 500 people and during its 31 years of operation the three stacks became a local landmark. The Power station ceased generating power in 1984, and was demolished in the early 1990s.
