The "dirty dozen" fruits and vegetables, as discussed by Dr. Michael Lange, Ocala optometrist, a Certified Nutrition Specialist and Optometric Physician. The dirty dozen should be avoided, because they are not organically grown, but instead filled with harmful amounts of pesticides and carcinogens. This list of fruits and vegetables consists of blueberries, strawberries, spinach, kale, lettuce, celery, grapes, apples, nectarines, potatoes, peaches, bell peppers and cherries. Do not eat them unless they're organically grown. The extra expense can be managed and is worth it. On the other hand, the "clean 15" are fruits and vegetables that have shown to be the least contaminated produce. The clean 15 may not require it to be organic to be healthy, although a fully organic diet is best. The clean 15 consists of onions, avocados, corn, pineapple, mango, asparagus, sweet potatoes, sweet peas, kiwi, cabbage, eggplant, watermelon, broccoli and tomatoes. Avoid the dirty dozen unless organically grown, and eat the clean 15 from organic origin when possible. Stay pesticide free and live a longer and healthier life.
