On 18th November 1962, at the icy heights of Rezang La, Ladakh (16,000 ft), a legendary battle was fought that redefined courage. 120 brave Indian soldiers of the 13 Kumaon Regiment, led by Major Shaitan Singh Bhati (Param Vir Chakra), faced the impossible — over 5000 Chinese troops armed with heavy artillery.

With no reinforcements, no artillery support, and fighting in freezing -30°C temperatures, these soldiers stood their ground. They fought till the last man and the last round, turning Rezang La into one of the greatest last stands in military history.

When the battlefield was revisited months later, the sight was unforgettable — Indian soldiers still holding their positions, rifles in hand, facing the enemy even in death. Their sacrifice saved Chushul airfield, protected Ladakh, and became an eternal chapter of India’s military glory.
