After overcoming obstacles in their desire to offload marginal players, FC Barcelona is now attempting to give fresh terms to some of the squad's existing stars in an effort to reduce workers wages.
The club is now negotiating new contracts with Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique, which would include a wage cut. It should enable the Catalans free up their pay budget and so register new players like Robert Lewandowski.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is considering re-signing not just Busquets and Pique, but also other stars such as Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Given that he already has a contract until 2025, the goalkeeper has emerged as an unexpected possibility on the list. Xavi have high regard for the player and has played an important part in helping him maintain his position as the number one keeper despite his recent inconsistencies.
However, given the club's financial situation, ter Stegen's contract will be renewed with a wage reduction.
Surprisingly, ter Stegen's representatives appear eager to discuss and possibly accept the new terms. They are willing to assist the club in registering new players and are thus willing to meet with the board members to find an economic solution.
