In this video we explore a uniquely scenic area along Westgard Pass on California Route 168, starting from the charming town of Big Pine, California near Scenic Highway 395, where we wind through stunning high-desert landscapes and dramatic mountain vistas that showcase the rugged beauty of the White Mountains, a true hidden gem that's far from the crowds of more famous routes. As we ascend and descend the twisting pass, the views unfold in this lesser-known corner of the Sierra Nevada region, offering a sense of untouched wilderness that few travelers discover, leading us to the remote outpost of Oasis. From there, our adventure continues across the state line into Nevada, cruising along winding roads through the eerie ghost town of Lida with its abandoned mining relics, before picking up Highway 95 and journeying through vast open Mojave Desert valleys dotted with Joshua trees and historic sites, ultimately arriving in Beatty, Nevada. The arid, otherworldly landscapes and stark mountain formations along this drive mirror the dramatic scenery of nearby Death Valley National Park, providing a similar sense of vast isolation and geological wonder.
