New York City councilman Joe Borelli has listed out all of the city's progressive policy “failures” as he expressed concern over the migrant crisis.

“You have here in New York policies called bail reform and raise the age, which basically opened the gates to our jails,” Mr Borelli told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.

“So anyone getting caught and convicted of crimes serves minimal, if any, jail time.

“We have the migrant crisis. Its epicentre is New York City. For whatever reason, people always want to come here so whether they're crossing the southern border or whether they're crossing the border anywhere illegally, they want to come here to New York City.

“And we just have a failure upon failure of progressive policies from our tax structure, which means that hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers flee this state every year for greener pastures in the south and out west.”
