This is the theatrical trailer for the 1981 slasher horror feature "Friday the 13th Part 2", the first sequel to the 1980 shocker "Friday the 13" and the second entry into the franchise. This is the movie that sets up Jason Voorhees as the series antagonist. Produced and directed by Steve Miner, who was an associate producer on the 1980 original, this movie was released by Paramount Pictures on Friday, May 1, 1981.
Two months after the "Camp Crystal Lake Massacre" that claimed the lives of seven people on Friday, June 13, 1980, Alice Hardy (Adrienne King), the lone surviving "Final Girl", has returned to Crystal Lake, New Jersey in an effort to face her fears and put the nightmare of Pamela Voorhees and her murderous rampage behind her. She awakes from a nightmare that is a flashback of the reveal and climax of the first movie, in where Alice decapitated Pamela's head in a desperate bid for survival. She is also haunted by the morning after in where she is pulled under the lake by a moss covered Jason Voorhees, in which the cops reveal to her that they never found hos body. After taking a shower, she hears a noise coming from her kitchen and grabs an icepick, ready to defend herself, but its's just a cat. As she goes to feed it, she opens up the refrigerator and is horrifically greeted by the sight of the decaying, decapitated head of Pamela Voorhees sitting on the top shelf. Before she has a chance to react, the icepick that she was using to defend herself is inserted into her temple, by a hulking unseen killer, who is revealed to be the adult, not-so-dead Jason Voorhees, who miraculously survived his drowning two decades earlier. And with that, Alice Hardy, that last survivor of the Camp Crystal Lake murders is no more.
Flash forward to five years later, enterprising camp counselor Paul Holt (John Furey) has opened up a counselor training center on Crystal Lake that is a few hundred yards from Camp Crystal Lake which has been shuttered for five years. Acting as his assistant is his girlfriend, child psychology student Virginia "Ginny" Field (Amy Steel). We are then introduced to the new group of kids that will become this movie's roundup of dead meat: horny pervert and prankster Scott Cheney (Russell Todd), shapely Terry McCarthy (Kirsten Baker), whom Scott has a thing for, wheelchair bound Mark Jarvis (Tom McBride), Vickie Perry (Lauren-Marie Taylor), who has a crush on Mark, and another amorous couple in Jeff Dunsberry (Bill Randolph) and Sandra Dyer (Marta Kober).
The first night of their arrival, Paul gathers the counselors around a campfire to tell them the "ghost story" of Pamela Voorhees and her son Jason's murderous rampage in Crystal Lake. After being scared by prankster Ted (Stu Charno) dressed up as Jason, Paul tells the kids that it's all just stories and that Camp Crystal Lake is off limits.
Meanwhile, town drunk and town crier Crazy Ralph (Walt Gorney) watches the kids in the woods as he attempts to again warn them like he did in the first movie. But's all for naught as he is garroted by chicken wire, courtesy of Jason.
The next morning, Jason remains hidden in the woods watching the counselors as they jog and have lunch. As they go off to go swimming in the lake, Sandra cajoles a reluctant Jeff into exploring Camp Crystal Lake, when they are caught and hauled back to camp by Deputy Winslow (Jack Marks), who warns Paul to keep the kids away from the camp. As he is returning to town, Deputy Winslow catches sight of a hooded Jason running through the woods. He gives chase and follows him to a crudely built shack, where Jason dispatches of him with a hammer caw to the head.
That night at dinner, Paul and Ginny announce one last night on the town with the counselors before they start seriously working the next day. Jeff and Sandra are forced to stay behind and watch the camp as they violated Paul's rule about exploring Camp Crystal Lake. Terry volunteers to stay back in order to search for her lost dog Muffin. Scott stays back to chase after Terry. Mark decides to stay back and Vickie stays as well to get closer to him. After Paul and company leave, Jason enters the campgrounds to stalk the kids one by one and murder them brutally.
Meanwhile at the bar, Ginny and Paul try to make sense of the Jason legend and she realizes that he must have watched his mother be killed, and that he embarked on his own killings to avenge hers. While Ted stays behind at the bar, Paul and Ginny are confronted by Jason, as they try to escape the night with their lives.
"Friday the 13 Part 2" began a long battle with the filmmakers versus the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the American movie ratings system as the filmmakers were steadily forced to trim seconds, even minutes of gore makeup effects in order for the movies to achieve an R-rating. The unedited gore sequences of this movie have turned up after 40 years on the new "Friday the 13th" Deluxe Edition box set release.
