On Microphones - some Considerations
With respect to the ability to buy an excellent microphone there has never ever been a better time than n o w, especially after the long-awaited re-issisue of the original Neumann U67!
Some recommendations for professionals and skilled amateurs:
In case you consider to invest (not just "spend") some few thousand $ or E on a mic matching your individual needs, becoming your personal workhorse you can have a closer look at the 2018 issued Neumann U67 (called "Set"), which is a 1 : 1 re-issue of the famous U67, still in use in many studios. About the K870 capsule used in the U67 reissue see this*.
In case you are in the northern part of Germany I would recommend to you to visit Echoschall in Berlin, here having the chance to hear a Neumann U67 from new production versus a serviced vintage Neumann U67.
According to Carsten Lohmann all his Neumann U67 he sold so far to customers have been just fine.
When you buy from Echoschall/ Carsten Lohmann he will exchange the russian tube in the U67 for a NOS EF86, which is a must (see also *). It is also evident Neumann cannot deliver the 2018 U67 with NOS selected EF86, it would not pay, it would be too costy.
Carsten Lohmann may even let you listen to the Vox-O-Rama U47 of Andreas Grosser, in case it is not lent-ouit that day, giving you a wider impression.
I am sure Carsten will also let you have a new Vox-O-Rama U47 in case this turns out to be favourite to you.
To my understanding you cannot state a (new) FET U47 (Andreas) is "better" than a 2018 Neumann U67 or vice-versa. The U47 is just different, for sure. The U47 is less complex in it's signal path (as Carsten told me), thus for some voices it may be more suitable. The U67 is more easily to be handled and can be used for a wide(r) range of situations in recording.
Please remember someone raised a thread in Gearslutz, which mic to be taken to a lonely iland, in case you hat only o n e to choose. I expected all would take the U47 but was surprised, apart from other mics mentioned, the majority voted for the U67!
In case you wish to get a good mic for vocals and you are in the area of Northern Germany, if I were you I would make an appointment with Carsten, go to Berlin, check vintage Neumann U67 against 2018 Neumann U67 Set and Vox-O-Rama U47. Maybe there will also new U49 at hand to compare. This U49 is black quiet and has a high output level, according to a two-step schematic with two (!) tubes in the housing of the mic.
Upon having my vintage U67 serviced at Neumann/Berlin I came across the evaluations of Klaus Heyne, about his review of the Neumann U67 reissue 2018:

At another place, you get a lot more information on the capsule issue:

My personal recommendation for Europe is, to get the U67 reissue from Echoschall Carsten Lohmann, in person or by courier, and then contact Klaus to check the capsule for you.
Done this you will have one of the finest mic money can buy, it will last for decades, and if you keep the records you or your anchestors should always get back the investments.
In the meantime, you have a serious t o o l, a reference you can rely on!
