El Chicó is a neighborhood in the town of Chapinero, north of Bogotá, Colombia. Its construction began in the 1950s.1 It houses several residences and luxury buildings and is the headquarters of some embassies and delegations of international organizations. Among its places of interest are the Parque de la 93, the El Virrey Urban Park and the Museo del Chicó.
The word "chicó" comes from the Muisca word chicú, which in Spanish means "our ally". The name comes from the Chicú ravine that rises in the eastern hills. Although the Muiscas did not see water as a deity, it signified the beginning of life, of the whole relationship with the mother's womb and its symbolism of permanence.

According to some texts found in the Museo del Chicó, this area belonged to the great chiefdom of Suba. In 1951 the owner of the hacienda and the firm Ospinas y cía. They form a partnership to design the El Chicó neighborhood.Until 1954, it was the northernmost neighborhood of the city, before the creation of the Special District.

In colonial times, this was part of an area of ​​vast farms with wheat crops, where the wealthiest families rested, which included, in addition to the current neighborhood, also Rosales, Antiguo Country, El Nogal, La Porciúncula, El Lago, La Cabrera and El Retiro. Later the haciendas were united and divided first with the Saiz family, the Abella family and then José María Pepe Sierra, who in the end was divided between his two daughters Clara (Big Chicó) and Mercedes (Little Chicó).

El Chicó es un barrio de la localidad de Chapinero, al norte de Bogotá, Colombia. Su construcción comenzó en lo años 1950.1​ Alberga varias residencias y edificios de lujo y es sede de algunas embajadas y delegaciones de organismos internacionales. Dentro de sus sitios de interés se encuentra el Parque de la 93, el Parque Urbano El Virrey y el Museo del Chicó.
La palabra "chicó" viene de la palabra de origen muisca chicú que en español significa "nuestro aliado". El nombre proviene de la quebrada del Chicú que nace en los cerros Orientales. Aunque los muiscas no veían al agua como una deidad, significaba el inicio de la vida, de toda la relación con el vientre de la madre y su simbología de permanencia.

Según algunos textos que se encuentran en el Museo del Chicó, esta zona pertenecía al gran cacicazgo de Suba. En 1951 el propietario de la hacienda y la firma Ospinas y cía. constituyen una sociedad para diseñar el barrio El Chicó.​ Hasta 1954, fue el barrio más al norte de la ciudad, antes de la creación del Distrito Especial.

En la época colonial, esta fue parte de una zona de vastas haciendas con cultivos de trigo, en donde descansaban las familias más pudientes, que comprendían además del actual barrio, también Rosales, Antiguo Country, El Nogal, La Porciúncula, El Lago, La Cabrera y El Retiro. Posteriormente las haciendas se unieron y dividieron primeramente con la familia Saiz, la familia Abella y luego de José María Pepe Sierra, que al final se repartió entre sus dos hijas Clara (el Chicó Grande) y Mercedes (el Chicó Pequeño).
