In the first episode of this TV adaptation of the classic British theatre comedy, the Hardcastle family is in a state of excitement as they are expecting an important visitor: Mr Hardcastle's friend Sir Charles' son, Marlow. The hope is that the fine gentleman from London will marry the only daughter, Kate. Unfortunately, her older brother Tony is the first member of the family to meet Marlow and find the opportunity to play one of his infamous pranks.
