Welcome to Thou Can Drum's beginner drum beats! Each week, a new and easy to learn drum beat for beginner drummers. Once learned, these are easy drum beats for you practice. Drum sheet music provided to also help educate you to learn these drum beats.

Time to break away from the common 4/4 time signature. This week we have a 6/4 time signature drum beat, meaning there are 6 quarter notes per measure. This is a drum beat that I used in a song called "Columbo Says" from my band Dryvel.
If you are unfamiliar with different time signatures outside 4/4, do not worry. It's never to late to start practicing. Plus it's fun to play odd time signatures and it will make you a more versatile drummer if you're able to play different time signatures. If you can play a basic 4/4 drum beat, you can totally play this 6/4 drum beat. It contains just 2 extra beats.
The best way to approach this drum beat is to count to from 1 to 6 and count every time you play the ride cymbal. Start with playing only the ride cymbal and snare if you're having trouble picking this up. Add the bass drum in later. Get comfortable counting the measure while playing. Follow along with the drum sheet music as that should guide you. There are several speeds from slow to fast for you to try.
