Review Clevo P170SM
The machine setup was the following:
I7 4700MQ 2.4-3.2 ghz
8gb Kingston 1600 Mhz
Gpu Geforce GTX 765M 2GB ddr5
Disk: 120GB Kingstons HyperX
-Disk2: WD 7502GB 7200rpm
Intel Advanced 7260AC
Visual
The W355STQ, although a variation of the W350STQ, presents itself with a new, fresher look, with a new backlit keyboard which gave the visual impact that this model was missing. The design itself, although simple as other Clevo models, stands out more this time, specially compared to other Wxxx Series.
The laptop is quite more attractive
Having 15.6" the screen in general, has great image, being it matte or glare, it has nice clear tones, great color vivacity, and nice lighting and contrast, truly a screen not tiring to work on.
The New backlit keyboard even though it has only white light, its can be configured to 3 4 levels of light, one of them turned off..
.
Mechanics:
The W355STQ, has 1 coolers, with 2 cooling pads, 1 for the gpu and another for the cpu and 1 fan just like the other W series.
The first thing to notice is that the laptop is incredibly silent while working, only when you start using the Cpu's turbo, and the Nvidia, will it then make some noise. The fan sound isn't exactly the nicest one, but for a budget, High end laptop, it's more than great. Power per buck, these models are the best.
The fan, even at speed 2 is very acceptable, considering that the laptop is under heavy stress, they manage to keep the laptop cool.
We have noticed that some models, may reach higher CPU temperatures, due to not having much space too cool off the gpu and cpu at the same time, Ocasions like heavy games, and highly CPU demanding operations, may cause higher temps. This Series, used to disable to Turbo while the Nvidia was active, but after much complaints they removed that cap on the new ST STQ models, if you don't like the temperatures, you can simply go to the power options, and reduce the max CPU usage to 96%, you'll notice a temperature difference of about 20ºC, without compromising the performance.
Build wise, the laptop is Very simple to assemble, the only low point is that the 3rd ram slot is under the Keyboard.
Sound wise, we noticed a high improvement on the Wxxx Series, prooving that Clevo, is always inovating.
Packing a new Sound Blaster Cinema, these Wxxx, pack more sound capacity, and quality, than the older Pxxx Series. Which is very good,
Performance:
The laptop has high performance due to the GPU Nvidia GTX 765M.
Temperature wise, this laptop is very good, since we executed Furmark burn in test, for 15
minutes, both Cpu and Gpu temperatures didn't surpass the 70ºC GPU, 80ºC CPU and being the fan most of the times at speed 2-3,
About the Gaming Part, the game chosen for this test was, not surprisingly Battlefield 4
Battlefield 4:
With the settings that you can verify in our videos, we had an average of 50-75 fps with
1366x768 and everything on High. The detail level is very good, and If this frames are still not
enough, you can simply lower it more.
As all other models, surely with settings tweaking you'll find the setup that allows you for graphics more suited to your own play style.
.
Gpu Temperatures while playing, are of 66ºC,
All in all, this is extremely capable and versatile laptop, with a decent amount of horse power,
as well as very solid construction quality. Definitely an option worth considering.
