Pakistan has conducted a series of airstrikes along the Afghan border, specifically targeting the Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. The strikes, which occurred early Sunday, were aimed at hideouts of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), whom Islamabad blames for recent internal attacks. Reports indicate that approximately 23 people have been killed, with Afghan officials claiming that religious seminaries and residential areas were hit. Afghan spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the strikes, while medical sources in Nangarhar reported a high number of casualties. Pakistan's Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, confirmed the military action, stating that the interim Taliban administration failed to act against terror outfits despite repeated urges. This escalation follows a similar military action in October 2025. Although Turkey and Qatar previously brokered negotiations to de-escalate tensions, these latest strikes have renewed hostilities in the volatile border region. The situation remains tense as both nations trade allegations over the harboring of militant groups like ISIS-Khorasan.

Pakistan carried out airstrikes along the border with Afghanistan in the wee hours of Sunday, targeting Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters blamed for recent deadly attacks in the country.

Pakistan Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that the military conducted what he described as “intelligence-based, selective operations" against seven camps belonging to the TTP and its affiliates. He added that an affiliate of the Islamic State group was also targeted in the border region.
