IAF’s own ‘eye in the sky’ to pry on PakiINstan, China to be inducted at Aero India on February 14

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will finally induct the first indigenously developed all-weather airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system— 'Eye in the Sky'— at the Aero India 2017, in Bengaluru, augmenting its ability to detect incoming cruise missiles, fighter jets or even drones from both Pakistan and China.
The Rs 2,400 crore project will see the first aircraft inducted on February 14, while the second one will be delivered in a few months. TOI had first reported in January that the AeW&CS is ready for induction, and Defence Research and Development Organisation chairman S Christopher, on Saturday told reporters that the induction will happen at Aero India.

Indian Army losing sniper edge over Pakistan on LoC

In the last four months, over a dozen Indian soldiers have died at the hands of Pakistani snipers. A shortage of the lethal lone wolves, outdated technology and absence of specialised training programmes are fraying India’s edge in covert border warfare. Lack of official acknowledgment in the form of awards and citations is a deterrent to getting fresh recruits.

Indian snipers use only technologically obsolete Russian-made Dragunov rifles of 1960s vintage along the LoC. Acknowledging its slipping edge, an internal report of the Army HQ stated, “Snipers are force multipliers to any infantry battalion. The high standard of sniper training and their imaginative employment leads to decisive and out-of-proportion results.”

DRDO working on New Rudra M-II Air to Surface Missile (ASM) for Indian Airforce

According to government documents presented to Parliamentarians, DRDO has been sanctioned 489.06 crores to develop a new Air to Surface Missile (ASM) dubbed Rudra M-II for Indian Air force. Rudra M-II ASM Project was cleared last March by the Government. New ASM will have a likely range of 100-150km which can be mounted on the combat aircraft of the IAF such as Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Tejas Light Combat Aircraft. DRDO is already working on a state-of-the-art new generation anti-radiation missile (NGARM) which has carried out captive flight trials on Su-30 MKI aircraft to validate its seeker, structural integrity, navigation and control system, and aerodynamic capability last year

Indonesia wants Netra Spy Plane Demo in their Country

After expressing Interest in Countries indigenously developed LCA-Tejas Combat jet, things seems to be heating up on another front. According to Indian media report, Indonesia which had expressed in a briefing on Netra AEW&C System has asked DRDO to conduct official product demonstration in its country. Netra AEW&C System already has gathered a lot of attention among few countries after it was demonstrated in Bahrain air show last year. since then DRDO has been following with many countries who had then inquired about the Netra AEW&C. Netra AEW&C System which is mounted on Brazilian Embraer-145 jets can also be mounted on similar jets of the choice of customers according to DRDO

LCA-Tejas PV1 to be test bed for Kaveri engine which will fly in next Aero India says DRDO Chief

DRDO Chief Dr S Christopher has confirmed Tejas-PV1 combat aircraft, currently used to test advanced electronic warfare suite (EW suite) by Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE) will also be test bed aircraft to be used to integrate indigenously developed Kaveri engine . According to Air Marshal Philip Rajkumar (retd) in his Book ” The Tejas Story ” had mentioned that Tejas-PV1 was specifically designed to accommodate Kaveri engine in its engine bay but it later flew with American engines but it still has been maintained by DRDO due to this attributes of the jet, so it is not surprising so see oldest Flying LCA-Tejas aircraft been selected to become test bed for Kaveri engine .
