You'll need an Action Replay to use these codes.
These are meant to be used with an 'Always Have Item' code (Check below for code). The effect of these codes won't be noticed otherwise.
These DO NOT give you an item and they are not rapid fire codes. These increase or decrease the maximum limit of an item.
This means you can deploy more or less of that item.
For example, you're normally limited to one blue shell. With these codes, you'll be able to increase the blue shell limit. This means instead of being limited to one blue shell, you'll be able to use ten, or more without them disappearing. (Until they hit the limit you set, of course.)

NOTE: Don't set the value too high. Otherwise, the game might crash.
Green Shell: 22159938 000000xx (Default value: 08)
Red Shell: 22159858 000000xx (Default value: 08)
Banana: 22159790 000000xx (Default value: 0C)
Fake Item Box: 22159F88 000000xx (Unstable! - Default value: 03)
Bob-omb: 22159E74 000000xx (Default value: 01)
Blue Shell: 22159CE0 000000xx (Default value: 01)
Blooper: 2215A30C 000000xx (Default value: 01)
Boo: 2215A248 000000xx (Default value: 02)

These should work on every mode.
