Why is sqrt(x) = x^(1/2)? What Ms. Michael didn't show you

In this #SHORTS video, we prove that the sqrt(x) is equal to x^(1/2) using the basic properties of exponentials, i.e., index laws. I remember asking this question when I was first learning about exponential functions in high school and was disappointed at the fact that my teach had no idea.
