Guiding Light of Lantern Rite
Our fifth Lantern Rite is upon us! We stroll through the streets of Liyue to reunite with friends. And who do we run into first? None other than Hu Tao and Xiangling! Hu Tao seems to be worried about her work, but she's still jolly enough to greet us in her new festive outfit that Xiangling got her. We let Hu Tao return to her business and go with Xiangling to roam the decorated and bustling harbor. There, we run into Keqing and a new friend named Lan Yan. They explain how this year's Lantern Rite is honoring the tree god, Tao Dao, and their legend: this god guarded the gate to the realm of the dead, but when they got involved in the Archon War, death was able to creep up on the boundary between life and death and corrupt the land of the living; so the Eight Adepts worked together to purify Tao Dao via a magic array and returned the boundary to normal as Tao Dao became the border itself. This theme might be more fitting for this Lantern Rite than we realize, as we hear and see people seemingly afflicted with a strange, deathly curse. But what could be the real cause of all these incidents? We might have to look more into this legend and investigate the possible connections.
And we can still enjoy the festival atmosphere, games, combat training, and gift envelopes while we're at it.
