This is the Heart and Soul, the Flagship product of our company; meant to be the brains behind any locomotive or traction motor vehicle. Our TECU will watch and correct wheel slips in typically less than a second,
it will control wheel creep to maximize tractive effort,
and it will catch traction motor problems such as pinion slips or locked axles.
And, using our interactive display,
the cutting out of traction motors can be managed with the push of a button.
The main focus of our TECU system is to control the power output of the main generator.
Information about the state of the locomotive is gathered through sensors
and communication links along the consist. Based on this information, the TECU will control the field of the main generator via SCRs,
TMV's exciter panel, or our battery field chopper.
Our system will produce the most power possible without causing wheel slips or overwhelming the engine.
It can handle many additional functions such as dynamic brake control,
cooling fan and air compressor control, as well as smooth transitioning from series to parallel configuration of the traction motors.
The TECU system has extensive diagnostics for finding problems with the locomotive and the TECU.
It can perform real-time captures of all information for review at a later time,
and it can log faults and events and a battery-backed memory for retrieval and analysis.
Add our remote package to have access to this information from anywhere, using the internet.
The TECU box typically consists of one CPU power supply module and several supporting modules - depending on your needs. The modular design of the system saves you from buying a complicated, bloated, one-size-fits-all control system.
Include only the modules you need - whether it be an SCR field driver or a voltage regulator for battery charging.
Modules of the same type can be easily swapped out for simple troubleshooting or replacement of problem modules.
Each TECU box will be placed inside the main electrical cabinet of your traction motor vehicle. A custom wiring harness would be attached to the back of each model by two bolts on the connector plate.
The wires of the harness would run out to all the contactors, relays and sensors,
establishing all the connections needed, so that the TECU can gather all the information needed.
Through these connections all required information is collected and converted into a format which can be used by the CPU.
The CPU continuously reads inputs, makes decisions, and communicates resulting commands back out through the I/O
to the various systems on your vehicle.
The software that runs on the CPU
is customized to fit your unique locomotive.
All of the inputs and many of the internal control variables will be displayed on a touchscreen-color-display unit.
The display unit can display many different screens of information to show live data and to perform locomotive tests.
Also, it can be customized to show any data at any time.
It has a serial connection to the TECU,
and it allows you at a quick glance
to see all locomotive information.
The main screen displays both messages and faults.
With each fault, the TECU system will save 10 snapshots of all system inputs and outputs in its battery-backed memory.
The snapshots are from various points between 2.5 seconds before the fault log to 0.5 seconds after.
The TECU will save up to 200 faults, with their snapshots, in circular memory.
The fault log can be downloaded to a laptop and analyzed using TMV's TECU-PC software.
TECU-PC is a software package that interfaces with the TECU system.
This is to download, view, and analyze your vehicle's data. It is for upgrading TECU software, and to access the TECU system terminal.
You can download fault logs, short term logs, view real-time view (which enables you to review real-time captures later), and view current statistics and parameters on the TECU.
The TECU control system is appropriate for used or new locomotives.
If you are updating an older engine or buying new, TMV will customize the control system to fit your needs.
Often customers choose to update their existing locomotives for a cost-effective solution for failing equipment.
Whether it be to comply with EPA-emissions regulations,
replace aging electrical components, replace aging hardware,
or simply to maximize your locomotive's potential, TMV will work with you to step up your vehicles performance.
An increase of 20 to 25% in tractive effort is typical.
Our engineers are ready to use their wealth of experience to work with you, to determine how to best control your vehicle
And what information you need to keep it running, and get the best out of your used or new locomotive.
