"There is no confirmed guarantee for facilitation (during the elections day) but there are promises for some facilitations. We are going to wait for the coming 48 hours to see how big will be the facilitation that will be given to the Palestinian security forces so they could keep order during elections day".

"Preparations for the elections are complete and the security apparatus is in place to prevent any breaches, whatever they may be. The atmosphere is excellent for elections and I think all those who expected this election to fail be will disappointed. The Palestinian security forces were instructed to handle with a tough arm everyone who will try to harm this election process. Those who don't want the Palestinian democracy to grow will not be a part of us."

STORYLINE:

Thousands of Palestinians took part on Sunday in mass rallies at the West Bank cities of Jenin and Nablus showing their support to local Hamas candidates three days ahead of legislative elections.

Best known for its suicide attacks, Hamas has won over the Palestinian public in its first run for the legislature by focusing on domestic concerns, halting government corruption and restoring law and order to the chaotic West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Recent polls indicate that Fatah and Hamas are running neck-and-neck ahead of Wednesday's parliament vote.

"There is no confirmed guarantee for facilitation" said Palestinian Interior Minister Nasser Youssef in a briefing for journalists in Gaza as he referred to the elections day and to the a Palestinian hope for some consideration from the Israeli side regarding the roadblocks and the army activity.

Meanwhile, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas arrived Sunday to visit the elections headquarters in West Bank city of Ramallah.

"Preparations for elections are complete and the security apparatus is in place to prevent any breaches, whatever they may be." said Abbas coming out of the centre.

The West Bank and Gaza Strip have been plagued by a wave of chaos and lawlessness in recent months, and some armed groups have
threatened to disrupt the voting.
