Split is the second largest city in Croatia but in this video we are focused on the historical Split. At the turn of the 3rd century, Roman Emperor Diocletian built a large palace near a small settlement on the Adriatic that was to become Split. We explore what remains of Diocletian's Palace and how it has changed over the centuries. Split has been ruled by Romans, Venetians, Austrians, Italian, French and Croats and each have left their mark on the architecture of the Old Town of Split. we'll walk through the squares and see how they have evolved.
