In this video, we have a look at the brand new Union station! This station is located on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines.

This station replaces the old Surrey Hills and Mont Albert stations which they closed on 17th February 2023, prior to 3 months before Union station opened which was on 22nd May 2023.

This station features:
-Waiting room and customer service buildings facing North with green tiled building
-Lifts with sensors on each platform (1&2 Island platform, #3 single platform)
-Nice white roof decoration facing North (Towards the former Surrey Hills station and Union Road level crossing)
-New style white station signage with the dark blue colour (it’s group colour for the Burnley group)
-Myki Barriers access to the station or exit station when tap on or tap off (Strangely, one of the Myki Barriers were open as of the day I filmed this station)
-Stairs and ramps access to the platform (access from Montrose Street and Beresford Streets)(Also, stairs not in use from the road entrance as of June 2023)
-Stairs and lifts access to each of the platforms
-Next train information and emergency buttons showing what they are for
-Open space and bicycle lanes (Still under construction as of June 2023)

Union Road and Mont Albert Road level crossings we’re the 69th and 70th crossings removed, the crossing equipment was removed on 17th February 2023 (Same day the last train departed and passed Mont Albert and Surrey Hills stations as well as these stations closed). This level crossing removal is unique because the LXRA normally rebuild current train stations rather than opening brand new ones. Union station finally opened on 22nd May 2023 after a 3 month shutdown between Chatham and Box Hill. The train station name “Union” was announced back in March 2022 by the Victorian Government. In my opinion, I think this station is one of the best rebuilt stations in Melbourne!
