Hey guys! Peter here!
I recently went on a road trip to Michigan and, as I was filling up, I noticed that gas stations had a tendency to be built right next to each other. Almost without fail, you would have two (sometimes even three!) right across the street from each other. It doesn't seem to make a whole heck-of-a-lotta sense on the surface. But "rational" things aren't always obvious (a point of a lot of contention amongst behavioral economists and bearers of the standard paradigm--whew boy). It turns out that there's a really simple game that can help explain why these properties are right next to each other.

Monopoly!

Nah just kidding. (And thank God! Just getting the b-roll would have cost me three friends, a kidney, and the soul of my first-born child--I want Park Place, damn it!). Turns out, it's actually way simpler than that. It's all about supply, demand...and time.
