Troubleshooting magazine transfers on a gel plate, part 1: contrast…

Choose images that have high contrast.

The first magazine page does not have enough contrast and doesn’t leave the resist on the plate.

Images with a lot of contrast work best.

Black and white images work really well.

BTW, “image transfer” is a misnomer... what’s really happening is a resist... the black/darker areas on the magazine page resist the paint on the plate and leave it. The white/lighter areas on the magazine page pick up the paint off the plate.
