Legends on Deck Podcast Episode 75: Storytelling and Baseball Wisdom with John McLaren

In this landmark 75th episode of the Legends on Deck Podcast, Brian and David are joined by John McLaren.  He began his professional baseball career in 1970 as a catcher in the Houston Astros system.  After playing as high as Triple-A, McLaren maintained a burning desire to make it to the big leagues.  After several years coaching and managing in the Blue Jays farm system, he would get his break coaching third base in Toronto in 1986.

McLaren would go on to coach with the Red Sox (1991), Reds (1992), Mariners (1993-2002), Rays (2003-2005), Nationals (2009-2011) and Phillies (2016-2017).  He was the Manager of the Mariners from 2007-2008 and Nationals in 2011.  When McLaren wasn't coaching, he was working as a scout.  Of his thirty plus years in MLB, he spent over a decade working on staff of the legendary, Lou Pinella.

Today, John McLaren is still making waves in the game of baseball by way of Baseball United.  As Manager of the Wolves, he finds himself globetrotting for baseball talent in all corners of the world.  Drawing on some of his early experiences coaching Venezuela and in the World Baseball Classic, McLaren continues to be an ambassador for baseball in a meaningful way.
