Politician RC Poudyal was one of the leading lights of the movement for democracy in Sikkim in 1973. As a prominent and vocal politician, Poudyal has imprinted himself in the history books of Sikkim. Several vital moments of Sikkim are associated with him. He was a minister in the first democratic LD Kazi Government but protested the Assembly resolution brought to merge Sikkim with India, and did not sign the resolution. In 1979, he vehemently protested the ‘Black Bill’ of 1979 and went to the Supreme Court seeking reservation for the Sikkimese Nepali communities based on population in the Sikkim Assembly.
In this special focus episode, Swatantra Aawaj interviewed RC Poudyal at his residence on various historical political events of Sikkim.
