Since the unexpected departure of Jean-François Houle to the NCAA, the search for the next Laval Rocket head coach has been on. Heading into an important development season in the Montreal Canadiens’ rebuild, the position at the helm of the team’s farm club will be manned by Pascal Vincent.

Vincent was most recently given the unenviable task of coaching the Columbus Blue Jackets, a role that was ill-fated from the beginning. Vincent was put in a position to take over after the short-lived hiring of Mike Babcock in Columbus, and with Jarmo Kekalainen being fired mid-season as general manager, the writing was on the wall for Vincent before he really got a chance to make an impact as a head coach.

Prior to that, he had five full seasons as head coach of the Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets. He has been coaching professionally since 2011-12, as he was an assistant coach with the Jets themselves for five season prior to taking over their AHL bench.

Rookie camp for the Canadiens will be in September, an event the new AHL coach will surely be in attendance for. Following that, the Rocket will hold their own camp with the players released from the Canadiens, before starting their season on the road against the Providence Bruins on October 11.
