Public Safety

I recognize that the police and fire and first responders are a top priority for our county budget, and I will fight for the public investment it takes to keep our streets and homes safe. Security also means a planning process that protects our neighborhoods and promotes citizen participation, channeling development and growth to enhance rather than diminish our quality of life and property values. If our neighborhoods aren't safe, Henry County citizens will leave. Showing our county's weakness by decreasing our services will only lead to more crime and not enough skilled professionals to process the crime scenes efficiently. We should continue to promote the C.O.P.S. program. We MUST keep public safety strong. This is nonnegotiable.






Tougher Ethics Standards

Carlotta's commitment to restoring trust includes establishing stronger rules governing how the county conducts its business. A new land acquisition policy and a tough revised ethics ordinance which will better define responsibilities and require greater accountability throughout County government.







Increased Transparency

Henry County residents will have unprecedented open access to information about the decisions facing their Board of Commissioners. I will initiate the online placement of full agenda packages and other background details prior to Commission work sessions and business meetings.







Job Creation

Now more than ever, Henry County residents need quality employment opportunities closer to home. To that end, I will focus on the need to make Henry a desirable place to do business. I will work hard to hold the line on business taxes and bringing stability back to County government. I have been actively involved in economic development throughout the state and look forward to the efforts of growing future business investment and additional jobs.






Sustainable Development

I envision working with the Cities and a broad coalition of allies to turn the various unused sites into vibrant neighborhoods with new businesses and housing. To do so, we must set out to build relationships among Henry County's diverse population of residents and entrepreneurs, as well as the property owners and public agencies with an innovative civic initiative.

The approach is founded on planning and improving the public environment while building relationships within the community. I would like to see districts throughout the county and cities thriving, walkable, transit-oriented community for residents and businesses. We can redevelop communities in smart growth ways. The partnership helps support the local coalition-building work with coaching and funding, and provides strategic assistance for resolving the thorny issues around mixed-use financing and design in an unproven market, infrastructure reinvestment, parking, marketing, and building an active transportation network.

Projects can benefits from the collaboration between the county, cities and partnerships. For example we can develop miles of community paths and green spaces connecting various neighborhoods as part of a planning goal that addresses land use, infrastructure and transportation issues. We need to address sustainability from the economic, environmental and social sides. A greener and more sustainable county yields greater environmental security.








Education/ Youth

Guiding Principles

Providing a high-quality education for all children is critical to Henry County's economic future. Our county's economic competitiveness and the path to the American Dream depend on providing every child with an education that will enable them to succeed in a global economy that is predicated on knowledge and innovation. I am committed to working with our local board of education and schools to assure that we are providing every child access to a complete and competitive education, from cradle through career.

I am also a huge supporter of early childhood education because it is dedicated to providing quality, comprehensive services to infants and toddlers. I will support and advocate teaming with other agencies and nonprofits to enable us to help each child and family achieve social competency and progress toward economic self-sufficiency. Early Head Start Education recognizes that parents are the primary influence in the child's life, and promotes them to participate in every aspect of the program. Early Head Start Education promotes learning within the first three years of life. Participating children perform significantly better in cognitive, language, and social-emotional development than their peers who do not participate. The program also has important impacts on many aspects of parenting and the home environment which is vitally important to our community as a whole.
