91% of parents worldwide use location tracking on their kids. Add to that gaming culture—where tracking players on virtual maps is the norm—and Gen Alpha is simply extending that logic to the real world. The timeline: Periscope (2015) introduced map-based live streaming, Snapchat launched Snap Map (2017), and Instagram just brought maps back (2024). Location sharing keeps returning, more normalized each time.
PART 2: DATING & THE PASSWORD PARADOX
For this generation, personal space isn't physical anymore—it's digital. It's in phones, accounts, location data. And that's showing up in adult relationships right now: over 85% of people worldwide have shared passwords with partners. 26% feel pressured to do so. 39% fear that refusing makes them look suspicious. We've created a world where "I love you" is followed by "What's your passcode?"
PART 3: WHEN GOVERNMENTS GET INVOLVED
Here's where it gets dystopian. Japan and China have declared birth rate crises national emergencies. Their solution? Government-run AI dating apps with unprecedented access to citizen data. China's Palm Guixi integrates with the social credit system (spending habits, political affiliation, GPS history). Japan's Tokyo Enmusubi requires tax certificates, legal proof of single status, 15 personal details, and mandatory government interviews.
THE QUESTION:
Zoom out for a second. Do we even need privacy? What role does it play? Maybe ultimate transparency is fine—everyone knowing where you are, what you're doing, your search history, income, who you date, your health data, everything.
How does that make you feel?
Because Gen Alpha will grow up thinking that's normal. That being unwatched means being unloved. That privacy equals suspicion.
