Sitka Mountain-ash - How To Identify Them! || Nerdy About Nature Tree Guide

Описание к видео Sitka Mountain-ash - How To Identify Them! || Nerdy About Nature Tree Guide

One of the most gorgeous deciduous trees we have here in Cascadia is the Sitka Mountain-ash, characterized by their really unique leaflets divided into 7-11 per leaf, pretty little white flowers and radiant red berries! There are several different species from the genus Sorbus here in Cascadia, and these all tend to hybridize in areas of overlap, creating variants with all sorts of odd characteristics that make them difficult to properly ID. A quick little cheat sheet for you here:

Sitka Mountain-ash (Sorbus sitchensis)
- Multi-stemmed trunk
- Blue-green rounded-tip leaflets of 7-11
- Berries deep red to orange

Western Mountain-ash (Sorbus scorpulina)
- Multi-stemmed trunk
- Yellow-green pointed-tip leaflets of 9-13
- Berries orange to scarlet

European Mountain-ash (Sorbus aucuparia)
- Single-stemmed trunk
- Blue-green leaflets of 9-15
- Berries red to orange

Regardless of what specific species they are, or whether or not they are a hybrid exhibiting various traits, they're all gorgeous trees!
