Woman with husband in wheelchair, son with special needs sobs when given Secret Santa gift

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. This is the ninth year the Secret Santa is blessing people in our community and every day, from now until the end of the year, we will post videos of the recipients being surprised with these life-changing gifts.

Shelli and her husband Ron live in Idaho Falls. They raised three children, the oldest of whom has special needs and she cares for night and day.

Ron's health has declined over the past few years and he needs a wheelchair. He goes to dialysis and wound care three times a week and Shelli lovingly spends her days taking him from one appointment to the next.

Somehow, she still manages to serve those around her. She mows her family's lawn, but also those of the elderly around her. She shovels their walks when she shovels her own. She is the first person to share a kind word or encourage someone else. She willingly serves in her church and always has a smile.

A few years ago, Shelli decided to go back to school and get her degree to become a teacher. Right after she completed her bachelor's degree, Ron became very sick and needed to start dialysis. She hasn't been able to work because she has been a full-time caregiver since she graduated.

Shelli and Ron drive an old SUV and she has to lift Ron's heavy wheelchair into the vehicle whenever they travel. The SUV is not reliable and could break down at any moment.

Secret Santa heard about Ron and Shelli and asked the East Idaho News elves to go pay them a visit. Watch our first surprise of the year in the video player above!
