Starting in July, Google Chrome is going to start marking all HTTP websites as “not secure”.

Here’s why it matters.

HTTP websites are unprotected and at high risk of manipulation and data theft. HTTPS, on the other hand, keeps information secure by encrypting the data.

If your website still uses HTTP, you should migrate to HTTPS as soon as possible – even if you don’t collect any data on your site.

If you do nothing, then come July your website visitors will see a “not secure” label, which will most probably make them distrust your site and send them looking elsewhere.

So, how do you migrate your website?

Migrating from HTTP to HTTPS isn’t a difficult process.

You just need to buy an SSL certificate, install your SSL certificate on your web server, and add 301 redirects to your new HTTPS URLs. And that’s it – no CMS changes or coding required!

It’s important to check your website for any bugs after you’ve migrated, like checking for any hard-coded HTTP links and custom scripts so that they point to the HTTPS versions. You should also update anything linked to your website, like your Google Search Console and Google Analytics profiles.
