In this video, we explore the profound findings of a comprehensive study on childhood emotional abuse conducted by researchers Riri G. Trivedi and colleagues. This research, published in the International Journal of Indian Psychology, gives us an understanding into the subtle yet pervasive nature of emotional abuse and its lasting impact on individuals.

The study conducted over 600 personal interviews with individuals who experienced emotional abuse during childhood, which gave qualitative insights into the various forms of emotional abuse, such as constant criticism, body shaming, comparing, etc.

Results indicated a strong association between childhood emotional abuse and the development of mental health issues such as depression and PTSD. Emotional abuse was identified as a significant risk factor for the onset of depressive disorders, surpassing other forms of childhood maltreatment.
