The Wizard of OZ- LUX Radio

On Christmas evening 1950, Judy Garland appeared on The LUX Radio Theatre to reprise her role as Dorothy Gale in the Wizard of Oz. In 1949, MGM re released the film and became quite popular the second time around.



Judy's co-stars were: Hans Conreid, Herb Vigran, Edwin Max, Herb Butterfield, Betty Lou Gerson, and Noreen Gammill. William Keighley was the host, John Milton Kennedy the announcer, and the Music Director was Rudy Schrager. Judy was paid $5,000 for this Performance.



Here is the restored audio of the broadcast. I edit out the intermissions and advertisements and just had the main performance. This broadcast is accompanied by photos of the Wizard of Oz. Most of which are production stills of scenes from the movie. Most of these photos, even the ones of Oz Are in black and white. There were only a handful that I could find that we’re actually in color.
