Do This To MASTER Your Fretboard! (Quick Lesson)

This is a great way to get to know your fretboard using any scale, we're using the pentatonic in this example because it's what most players would most familiar with.

Connecting the different positions or patterns using only a couple strings before worrying about memorizing each positions across all strings.

That can be a bit much at first when trying to not only memorize scale shapes but also have a clear idea of what to do with them!

Sometimes with my students, when first teaching the different pentatonic positions, I only show them the first 3 strings at first. So it's not as overwhelming (compared to all 6 strings) and then we improvise in each position also being aware of where the root notes are in each positions to give a better understanding of each position and how to phrase within it!

Try out these licks but also try to come up with your own sequences and ideas so you're not only practicing your positions across the fretboard but adding cool licks to your library of ideas for when you're writing or improvising!
