In this beautiful Punjabi poem, 18th century Punjabi Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah, talks of how his teacher has taught him a wonderful lesson- that his temple, his shrine, his church, his mosque- his place of worship- is not within the four walls of a building but within the walls of his heart and the walls of the heart of the person next to hm. And now that he has this knowledge he can see that God is all around him and in celebration of this, he wears his ankle bells and dances.
Sonam Kalra brings these verses to life in this song, not just with her beautiful voice but also with the unique blend of Indian sounds and western influences. The Sarangi is played to sound like the Irish fiddle, the banjo, the flute and the percussions all come together to celebrate this wonderful message of inclusion.
