When investigating congenital limb deficiencies, the history should include questions about the patient's pain, previous treatment, and medical conditions.
The limb development is described in three axes and the apical ectodermal ridge is responsible for proximal to distal growth through fibroblast growth factor secretion.
Congenital femoral deficiency is a rare condition with an incidence of 1 in 50,000 people. It is usually unilateral, with the right femur being the most affected. It can be diagnosed using neutral ultrasounds and has blood vessels and neurovascular bundles displaced medially or laterally. A comprehensive approach to examining the limb is necessary to reach a diagnosis.
