"I can’t wait to perform a solo recital in Utrecht’s ConcertLab. This innovative format uniquely connects a live performance with the most musically dedicated filming technique. I always loved to perform solo recitals, although there is definitely nothing more dounting one can choose to do on stage. it’s also the most direct and intimate dialogue one can have with the audience.
In this programme I dare to perform two of the most monumental works for violin solo: Bach’s “Ciaccona” from the second Partita, one of the most astonishing masterpieces ever written and definitely the musical pinnacle of violin repertoire, and Paganini’s Caprice 24, which accompanied me since early childhood up until I recorded the complete cycle at 22 for Deutsche Grammophon.
The other 3 pieces are lesser known jewels. Grazyna Bacewicz’s fiery Polish Caprice and two Italian extremes that create a beautiful contrasting framework around the Paganini’s Baroque Italian elegance: Carlo Boccadoro’s “Come d’autunno”, written for me in 2019 and inspired by the poetry of Dante and Ungaretti and a piece by Tartini.
This special concert will also be a rare chance for me to play the legendary Falmouth ex-Kavakos Stradivarius violin! The violin was made in Cremona in 1692, the same year Tartini was born!"
