The earliest Christians in the Palakkad district were from Thrissur district. They settled at Melarcode (R C Kambolam) around 1550 CE as traders of coconut oil and spices . Later on, Christians from Idukki and Kottayam districts migrated to
these areas. There still exists a street similar to Tamil Agraharam at Melarcode boasting the glory of the past.

Melarcode is a village in Alathur Taluk of Palakkad District, Kerala. "Mayilattoor" was the former name of Melarcode ("Mayil" meaning peacock), probably due to the presence of many peacocks in the village. This beautiful village is 70% covered with paddy fields, ponds, canals and temples.

A resident of the area, K.P. Lawrence Sir who made his own mark in the religious, social, political and cultural fields is also a scholar of the history of the area. In this video, he narrates the history and growth of Melarkod for the audience. I am greately indebted to Lawrence sir for sparing his valuable time, ignoring his poor health, to explain the unknown history of the migrating christians of Kerala.
