In this video, we’re going to explore the hidden side of Puerto Galera. We did several activities we really enjoyed, like underwater caving and snorkeling. As far as I know, Puerto Galera is considered the Philippines’ Diving Capital—so expect to see stunning underwater views.

I’d say the place is well regulated for the comfort of tourists. Tricycles and boats have to line up and wait for their turn to serve visitors. The food, however, is on the pricey side. Puerto Galera leans heavily toward tourism, so even basic commodities tend to be a bit expensive. We couldn’t find any local karinderyas, even in the poblacion. We had an inside joke that Puerto Galera is the “Pizza Capital” of the Philippines 😭😭—we lost count of how many restaurants offered pizza!

One thing the place could improve is that it doesn’t need to try so hard to be “super touristy.” Some tourists also want to try authentic local food. 🙂

Anyway…

We booked our accommodation (Casalay Boutique Villas & Dive) through Agoda. The resort has its own private beach, and the only way to get there is by boat from Muelle Port. Boat transfers are free during check-in and check-out, but a single trip costs ₱300 otherwise.

There are plenty of activities at the resort, including free use of kayaks, a swimming pool with depths ranging from 4 to 10 feet, a restaurant, and a bar. Expect the food to be pricey. However, the bar offers buy-one-take-one cocktails from 4 PM to 6 PM.

The resort offers a luxurious stay at a not-so-luxurious price. I recommend booking through Agoda for discounts.

Activities you can try: Snorkeling | Free Diving | Island Hopping Accommodations: Choose a place like Casalay or another resort with a private beach if you’re after a super chill vacation (look for discounts online). Stay near the white sand beach if you want easy access to restaurants and shops.
