Northwest Profiles: The Art and Sole of Boot Making - Nicks Handmade Boots

Nicks Handmade Boots was first opened way back in 1964 and there has been multiple owners and buildings since now owners Steve and Shuyler Mowe bought it in 2013. The father-son-duo have taken the shop from a boot shop that focused more on work boots for firefighters and construction workers to creating a vast variety of styles that attract customers from all over the world. Our production crew stopped by their factory on Sprague in Spokane, Washington in December of 2022, to see how the sausage of handmade boots is made. We interviewed longtime boot maker, Michael Hunter, who shared is passion for the craft and how specialized his position at Nicks Boots really is. Then, we also chatted with young-buck Jamin Lau, who has only been working for the company less than a year after getting his engineering degree from University of Washington. Funny enough, through doing this project, our production crew find out that there are actually quite a few handmade boot companies in Spokane, but there are very few factories throughout the country, making this handmade boot company still quite a rarity!
