Hoi Wah Ho of Dynasty shares an excerpt from David Peterson / Clive Potter's essays on their Sifu, legendary Wing Chun / Ving Tsun Master Wong Shun Leung.

Known as "The King of Talking with the Hands", Wong Shun Leung's definition of "real" Kung Fu was simply if it works in a fight or not. He did not care about any other ideas or definitions that many other teachers or students might have about Chinese Kung Fu, such as practicing Kung Fu for health benefits, or for spirituality. If you weren't practicing Kung Fu for fighting, then you weren't practicing Kung Fu at all.

Wong Shun Leung was a top student of the legendary Ip Man / Yip Man and was Bruce Lee's Kung Fu brother senior. He was also known to have been the one who actually taught Bruce Lee most of his Wing Chun Kung Fu.

Master Wong fought hundreds of illegal rooftop matches back in 1950's Hong Kong and has the fight record and experience to prove it. If a venerated Wing Chun Master in Wong Shun Leung says Kung Fu should be practiced with the objective to develop your fighting skills, then we should stop and listen.
