11-25-2015 City of Gardena, California. Los Angeles County Firefighters, Engine 95, 158’s, 160’s first on scene near the intersection of Gardena Boulevard and Berendo Avenue reported a one story commercial building fully involved, requesting a second alarm. The fire involved Collins Firestone tire shop that threatened to spread to a row of businesses, including the Gardena Shopping Center to the east. Firefighters waged an aggressive fire attack with hoselines, engine monitors and a ladder pipe, keeping the fire from spreading. Special attention was paid to the wind swept fire brands blowing toward the east. Small explosions could be heard from inside as flamed ripped through and destroyed the structure. The blaze was brought under control in over an hours time. Gardena P.D. assisted fire in traffic control and crowd control. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around. There were no reported injuries, damage was extensive, the cause of late night fire is under investigation. - MNR -
