My Gibson L 4 Archtop. (For sale??)

Описание к видео My Gibson L 4 Archtop. (For sale??)

Hi, getting to the end of my guitar collection videos now but this is an interesting one. it is my oldest guitar, and my only Gibson guitar.
They surely built them to last back then!
Many/most connoisseurs of earlier Gibson archtops will say that this is NOT an L-4 because in 1934 (the build date,) they had round sound holes.
This is true. My research has led me to understand that this was built in late 1934, but is, in fact a 1935 model. as the last of the 16" L-5 bodies may have been used. However it doesn't have the raised diamond on the tailpiece although it looks original, and it doesn't have a fretmarker on the first fret.
It could be thought of as an L-7 apart from the fact that the label clearly says L-4.
1934/5 was a time of redesign and changes and Gibson was never known for consistency. It also has a "made in the USA" stamp in the back of the headstock, which may, or may not indicate an export model, although the dealer advised me that it spent most of its life in New York in the ownership of a famous songwriter (no provenance). The pick guard has original fittings but it not, itself, original. It has a rather tired original hard case.
The condition is generally good with less checking than one might expect and one small impact dent and crack on the back - no repair necessary, and one scratch on the top which has been "inked out" by the dealer.
The Dealer also told me that he had stoned the frets and that it played perfectly. He didn't tell me that he had effectively removed them so a full refret was necessary which I had done to an excellent standard by a luthier that I've always had absolute faith in - he has done a perfect job.
The neck is remarkably straight and no-one has needed to adjust anything since I got it in 2011.
This is definitely a '30s dance band rhythm box, although it has just that tone for playing melodically.
There we are , my Gibson L4 1934 archtop.
Questions and comments always welcomed.
BTW - I'm offering Zoom sessions if interested - mail me.
