The world's biggest bookseller, Barnes and Noble, has thrown down the gauntlet to Amazon and other rivals with the launch of a glut of new, rather unusually titled NOOK electronic devices here in the UK.

In a world, where mobile devices are increasingly becoming king, the New York-based firm is having to adapt to survive. More and more of us are ditching traditional books and DVDs to own ONE electronic device that can hold books, video, music and much more.

So here's a look at one of the two e-readers, the Simple Touch - that's going head to head with Amazon's Kindle -- and which is designed to give users the feeling of turning the page of a real book.

Then there's two versions of the tablet: the 7-inch Nook HD - the screen's got more firepower than the Google Nexus 7 or the Kindle Fire HD. 1,440 x 900 in fact, a mouth-watering 243 pixels per inch in terms of resolution. It appears brighter and sharper in comparison and feels lighter in your hand.

The 9-inch Nook HD+ is nose-to-nose with the Apple IPAD. Nuff said. When these devices hit the shops next month, it'll be the first time they'll be sale outside of America, which the crunch factor being they cost a little bit less than rivals in the market right now.
