For years, she was held captive in a remote village brothel, shaved, chained, perfumed, and forced into sexual slavery with men who paid to abuse her.

Her rescue in 2003 was nothing short of a battle, requiring armed officers to free her from her captors. When found, Pony was malnourished, traumatized, and had lost all instincts for survival in the wild. She was taken to the Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Centre, where caretakers worked tirelessly to help her heal.

Today, Pony lives at the rehabilitation center with other rescued orangutans. She can never return to the wild, but her story is a symbol of resilience and the urgent need to fight wildlife trafficking and exploitation.
