The National Irrigation Authority has been running three concurrent programmes in implementation of this directive in the ASAL area focusing on the counties of Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, samburu and Marsabit. The programmes are Spate Irrigation for Climate Resilience, Water Security and Climate Adaptation and Rehabilitation of strategic water facilities. The implementation of projects through these programmes have seen construction and rehabilitation of water storage facilities such as water pans and earth dams that have contributed to a cumulative storage of 3,996,451.00m3 of water. The capacity of each storage facility ranges from 20,000 m3 to 100,000 m3 depending on the availability of suitable land, site topography and Geo-technical conditions of the site.
