A man in New Mexico reportedly told police that he killed two people after receiving "an encrypted message in a cockroach" instructing him that he "needed to kill". 25-year-old Alexis Hernandez was arrested on two open counts of murder following a double murder inside an Albuquerque home on Friday.

He was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Saturday morning. At this time, authorities have not identified the two male victims killed. Authorities say two young children were found inside the home at the time.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of gunfire just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday. At the scene, they found Hernandez who "had a firearm on his waistband and a Marine Corps Sabre on his hip", according to an arrest warrant.

After being detained, he allegedly told deputies that he was in the Marines and "had to do what he had to do." He also allegedly said there were two bodies inside.

One male victim was found with possible gunshot wounds in the front of the house. The second male victim suffered apparent stab wounds in an attached apartment. Two children were found unharmed. During an interview, Hernandez confirmed he knew the men and that one owned the property.

He believed the property owner was a friend who had been stalking him for days. He also alleged that the friend had placed cameras in the lights. Hernandez allegedly said he had been "hearing creepy voices coming from the vents" and "had been getting signs" that he had to deal with the property owner before he ended him.

He told authorities that he received an "encrypted message in a cockroach" telling him he needed to kill the property owner who did not like cockroaches.

Hernandez reportedly said he bought a Glock handgun for protection. On Friday, he claimed the two men took him to the backroom of the residence and that he "was afraid for his life". The warrant alleges that Hernandez said he shot the property owner in the head and the other victim in the kitchen.

Then, he went to his Honda Pilot to reload his gun before going back inside and shooting both men again. According to the warrant, Hernandez knew the children were at the house and that they saw the shooting. He claimed "he was not going to take the kids or do anything to them".
