Setting boundaries with immigrant parents can be hard.

In many cultures, the family is the unit - not the individual.
So the idea of drawing a line between “you” and “them” can feel deeply unnatural, even threatening.
And there are so many other cultural, generational, and values differences involved.

We have been told to "just say no" but that also feels unnatural and ineffective.

That’s why so many of us freeze.
Or spiral into guilt.
Or leave every attempt at a boundary angry, resentful, and hopeless.

It's not wrong to want to find a way to love them and you.
Boundaries can make relationships better.
But we have to go beyond the tools we were given that were not created with our families in mind.
We need to support to clearly understand the clashes at play and to navigate through with more discernment, wisdom, flexibility, and choice.
