Learning from the River - the Pilot Project Bad Deutsch-Altenburg

Описание к видео Learning from the River - the Pilot Project Bad Deutsch-Altenburg

In February 2012, the construction of the pilot project Bad German-Altenburg started. The objective of the project was to test river engineering measures aimed at both securing the Donau-Auen National Park and ensuring passage for inland waterway transport. In the project stretch, implementation of riverbank restoration, re-connection of a side-arms, optimization of low water regulation and granulometric bed improvement to stabilize the river bed, were performed for the first time. This integrative planning approach has been used nationally and internationally as a best practice for planning projects. A consultative stakeholder forum accompanied the works. In July 2014, the project was successfully completed after about two and a half years of work. The scientific monitoring of the measures implemented will continue in the coming years. The entire construction process was accompanied by a film crew.

While the film is in German, it has English subtitles and graphics.
