This video shows how the Single Central Lighting (MEC-SCL) iris camera works. This camera is simple to operate and the illuminator reflection is always in the pupil area. For more info see http://www.milesresearch.com

The video also shows how to use the compact/portable chinrest (CRCS-UF).

The setting of 0.286 is the minimum focus, and is in meters. The corresponding working distance (distance from in-focus subject to the camera's image sensor) is 11.25 inches. However the camera does not autofocus closer than about 11.75 inches so for autofocus, the subject (the iris) needs to be a bit further away from the camera.

The current Nikon DSLR included in this kit (as of 2019) is the D3500.
